House Hold Study of Poverty

The objective of the study is to explore the major contributing factors that led to decline of poverty in Sri Lanka during last ten years. The head count index of poverty in 2006 carried out by department of census and statistics indicates the dramatic decline of the proportions of households below the poverty level when it is compared with the 2001 data. The research attempts to explore the factors that could have contributed to this decline. The study adopts a multidimensional approach and research is carried out in four districts over a period of seven months.
