Welcome to Marga Institute
The Vision of the Institute is to be a leader in defining the norms, processes and policies that identify the model of human development for Sri Lanka.
Our mission is to fulfill this role and contribute to a just and equitable development process in Sri Lanka through multi-disciplinary research and a national dialogue on development issues. The principle activity of the Marga Institute is the study and critical evaluation of past and ongoing development processes in Sri Lanka.
Our Main Divisions
1. The Centre for Development Research and Training (Education)
a) The research is organised under two main programmes.
(1) Research on development policy and governance.
(11) Social Studies and micro-level researc.
b) The Education and Training Programmes include post-graduate courses conducted in collaboration with the Open University of Sri Lanka.
2. The Civil Society Forum
The Marga Civil Society Forum seeks to promote and strengthen a sustained national dialogue in which concerned groups and individuals in civil society would be engaged in the analysis, monitoring and evaluation of development processes, policies and outcomes.
Activities will include;
- Seminars workshops and group discussions on issues of public interest.
- Broad based consultations with citizen groups.
- Dialogues among key stakeholders.
- Interaction and lobbying with policy makers.
- Publications of findings and policy briefs and reviews.
3. The Documentation Centre and Publications.
This unit will be in charge of the:-
- Library.
- The main research data base.
- Documentation and publications.
- The translation programme.
- Services to scholars and civil society organizations.
