Reducing the Gap between Precept and Practice with regard to Religious Teachings –Focus on Sri Lanka

A study to examine and assess the widening gap between precept and practice in religious teachings in individual life styles as well as in the public sphere of governance, with a focus on Sri Lanka initially is being initiated with a team of inter-religious lay persons and clergy. Sri Lanka is of special importance in this regard since it is host to four major religions in the world. A pilot study is planned as a first step, with a view to develop a methodology for a more extensive inquiry that aims to consult selected members of the public as well as seek opinions of key persons among both the clergy and laity, by administering a well-constructed information schedule.
